About Us

The brown heron is distinctive, noble, and patient. So are the founders and partners of Brown Herron Consulting, Wesley Brown and Derek Herron. With more than 20 years of experience in growing cultures of giving in nonprofit, private K-12, and higher education settings, Wes and Derek know the struggles that leaders of nonprofit organizations face – the deadlines, the goals, and the pressures of recruiting and energizing volunteers.

We do this by providing high-quality, personalized services proven to engage volunteers, exceed fundraising goals, and implement effective strategies for revenue generation.

Wesley Brown

Wesley BROWN

Wes Brown is an innovative, results-driven executive and award-winning writer with a proven track record of building strategic partnerships, cultivating donor relationships, and driving sustainable growth.

Today, he serves as the Head of Institutional Advancement at Westminster Schools of Augusta. In his role, he closely collaborates with the Head of School, Leadership Team, Board of Trustees and key stakeholders on fundraising efforts in support of the school’s strategic goals. Previously, he served as a Major Gift Officer for the University of South Carolina Aiken.

Wes became a Certified Fund Raising Executive in 2025, is an Eagle Scout, proud Rotarian and serves on community boards. He and his wife Jessica have three children. 

Derek HERRON

Derek Herron

Derek Herron is an outcome-oriented development leader with a passion for growing deeply engaged organizations by facilitating donor impact and engagement through philanthropic support.

Derek currently is a Director of Development at Clemson University, where he serves as a frontline development leader for seven different colleges. Previously he served as a Senior Development Officer at Life University in metro Atlanta. Before that, he was the Director of Development at Scouting America’s Georgia-Carolina Council, which serves the CSRA.

He holds an MBA from Texas Tech University’s Rawls College of Business. He volunteers in the community, is active in his church, and a proud father to his daughter, Magnolia.
